Hi Dean. i've been trying to figure out your technic latly, and it didn't go as well as I planed. lips wern't quite perfect and curves were lousy 'round the heaps. Hoped you could give me a few tips... (:> btw, of all the artists in this site I liked your technic best!

I'm a great fan of Brazilian haiku...thanks, Eterna. Jinx, I dreamt up Mandy for a cartoon 'workshop' in the Forum section of Bellefree. The picture above is the first official Mandy, although she appeared, without yet being named, in a Playboy cartoon about a tattoo (she had brown eyes then) and then in the 'cliff' drawings (with Skoots and green eyes. When it was my turn to host the workshop, I needed a character, and I took her from those first versions...and the rest, as they say, is Herstory.

Don't worry, you won't have to get rid of anything. If I gave you permission before, anything done up until signing with GILD will still be able to be used, and my version of the contract will say so.

I draw in pencil, scan the drawing and color in Photoshop. The time it takes depends on a lot of different factors; a couple of hours, on average.

tinkerbelle - I do draw guys, all the time. They tend to be funny-looking, or ugly, or villanous, or goofy. I'm guessing that's not what you mean, though. And I too am intrigued by the extra eyes...perhaps you refer to her headlights?

Hey Dean, have you ever considered using a tablet pc? I've been using mine for some drawing, and I think it's the best thing ever. I used to scan my pencil drawings in and color in photoshop as well. It saves a lot of time for me.

I don't use a drawing program myself, and I have a Mac, but I did see a good PC one used on a Cintiq. Unfortunately, I can't remember what it was called. Sorry I can't help!

But drawing programs iron out the kinks and liveliness of your hand drawn lines, I think. That's why I don't use them. I scan my pencil drawings into Photoshop for coloring, though.
